Social Distancing in a Socially Awkward World

Life is complicated and is getting even more complicated as the impacts of the Covid 19 virus continue to impact our fragile world.

With students already facing a world of social challenges, along comes a pandemic that isolates and limits social opportunities like never before.

As we begin to rebuild the very structure of education itself, with increased remote learning, Zoom meetings, on-line courses, and an uncertain future, children are caught in this quagmire of uncertainty.

Our response to this crisis will need to be creative, goal oriented, and child centered. Kids need our help now more than ever to navigate this incredibly challenging world of confusion. What will the new guidelines and expectations be for social interaction? If a student was struggling with social skills and an inadequate self-image before, what will it be like after this period of quarantine and social distancing?

Kids are going to need lots of help. They will need to develop coping strategies, social skills training, adaptive tools, and strategies to boost their confidence.

Hopefully as we continue to prioritize for this new post-pandemic future, our strategies to educate and socialize this generation of kids will be unified in serving the true needs of these innocent victims.
