Introduction

This work is a series of letters that describe one man’s transition from college student to professional teacher. It has been titled “Dear Dad” as a tribute to a notable father who through his patience and support of an adventurous spirit, helped create the experiences described on these pages which in turn have led to many more adventures.

The first half of each letter is a description of the first year’s experiences during an introduction to the teaching profession. The second half of each letter is a summary of a backpacking trip through Europe taken just after college, before the start of a teaching career.

The words and descriptions from these letters have been left as they were written though  there have since been written hundreds of pages about other teaching experiences. There are no expectations as to the value of these words or the impact they may have. They have been put into print to as a culmination of writing experience and to document a turning point in a one man’s life.
